Personal:

45 years old this year (2010), Married with five kids between my wife and I (ALL GIRLS!) people wonder why I run?!?

My wife trains hard, but more weight training and has won many figure competitions.

We all love to go to Disney. We have a DVC membership, so I try to make a trip and do all of their races.

Love tattoos and have several. I designed a couple big ones that are running related and will most likley get more.

This was an awesome experience all the way around. The weather was frightful with a wind chill temperature of 19°!

Let's face it, I live in Florida and I have never run in temperatures as low as this. But I must admit, it was invigorating. Hearing volunteers yell, "watch out for the ice!" was something I never thought I would hear in a Florida race, but it happened. It was cold enough that the water spilled at the water stations would freeze on the ground and create an experience in itself (to me anyway). and finally an opportunity to wear tights!

I started off with the Clif Bar pace team 3:10 pacer, but layed off after about 11 or 12 miles. This was because my Garmin was telling me he was on about his sixth mile at around a 7:00 pace. I felt good at the time, but I thought I should reserve a little more energy... and 3:10 is around 7:17 the last time I checked!  I think in the end it was a good decision.

Once I set my pace I remained strong until the last two miles. These were tough to get up to pace. They were both around 7:50, but it was the first marathon that I did not have an 8:00 minute mile or slower at any time.

My family were all waiting for me at the finish line in the freezing temps. That is always my favorite moment of the race. To see my family and feel good about what I have accomplished. Every time it is slightly emotional (only for a moment!).

We stayed four additional days at Disney. Stairs were a little tough the second day, but we had a great time.

Good job on the race, BQ and PR. That is a cold day for FL.

It's exciting that the Colts are headed down your way. I wish I could go with them. Cold, windy and snowing here right now.

Mike, great job on the race! I had been looking for your race report for a while then stopped looking, then Jenny mentioned that it was up. Every degree under 50 degrees makes it tougher, or so I've read, so that is quite an accomplishment to get a PR like that in less than ideal weather.

6:47am  Starkey Trail

Ran with Eric this morning. We are both ailing a little bit from the marathons. My achillies is a little sore. It was sore before todays run , but it may be worse since the run.

Think I may lay off a little.

The injury to my achilles has proven to be much more than I orginally anticipated. I am even on light duty at work because I was unable to perform the Physical Abilities Test we have to do every year.

Anyway, I have been resting (thats the easy part), stretching, and excercising in a manner that did not aggravate my achilles for nearly two months now.

Since Sunday I have been jogging around the neighborhood to test my capabilities and I have been pleased.

Today? Stretch + warm up jog for ten minutes + stretch + 2 mile run! + stretch.

No pain and I feel really positive. Next I will increase my run to around 2.5 to three miles. I keep debating in my head about going futher, but I am committed to take this slow and do it right.

Went to Starkey Park around 11:00am. It was windy , but beautiful weather. Wanted to do 3 miles.

Stretch + 4 miles! + stretch a lot! .... felt great, but I must admit, taking the time off has really affected my aerobic capabilities.  I exceeded my expectations and will continue to slowly increase my goals.

8:28 average pace.
